Vintage landscape paintings for your walls

A vintage landscape painting brings open space into a room. This collection gathers public-domain landscapes by painters from France, Austria, Germany, Poland, Russia, England and the United States. Our vintage landscape prints come as fine art paper, gallery-wrapped canvas, or framed canvas.

Painters in this collection

Claude Monet painted the Seine, the fields near Giverny, and snow in Norway. Gustav Klimt painted the shores of Lake Attersee in Austria. Vincent van Gogh painted fields in Holland, Paris and the south of France. Each has a page of his own: Claude Monet Prints, Gustav Klimt Prints and Vincent van Gogh Prints.

Karl Hagemeister (1848–1933) painted the lakes and birch woods of Brandenburg, near Berlin. Eugen Jettel (1845–1901) painted cows, windmills and village ponds in Austria and Holland. Jan Stanislawski (1860–1907) painted small, bright views of Ukraine and Poland. William Henry Holmes (1846–1933) painted watercolors of American fields and streams.

Other American painters add wide skies and snow. Alexander Helwig Wyant painted the Adirondacks and the Catskills. Leonard Ochtman painted quiet winter mornings and hills. John Atkinson Grimshaw, known for moonlit streets, appears here with a wide meadow and geese. Koloman Moser's snowy peaks and cloud studies from 1913 are among the most modern works here.

Many of these painters worked in the years of Impressionism. See Impressionist Art Prints for more of their work.

Landscapes to start with

Choosing landscape wall art

Match the scene to the room. Water and open fields feel calm in a bedroom. Autumn woods and farm scenes add warmth to a living room or den. Snow scenes cool down a sunny room. Green summer views suit a kitchen or home office.

You can also choose by season. For spring, look at Stanislawski's trees in blossom. For summer, try Hagemeister's green lakes or Van Gogh's Green Field. For autumn, Holmes and Wyant painted woods in red and gold. For winter, see Ochtman's Winter Morning or Jettel's Hohlweg im Winter.

Landscape wall art above furniture should be about two-thirds the width of the sofa, bed or console. Many landscapes here also come as panoramic prints, made for that spot. See Panoramic Landscape Wall Art. For the sea and the coast, see Seascape Paintings.

Sizes and frames

Standard prints run from 8 × 12 to 28 × 42 inches, or from 11 × 14 to 30 × 40 inches. The range depends on the shape of the painting. Each product page shows the current price for every size and format. Frames come in black, white, gold, silver, walnut and oak.

Panoramic prints come in 8 × 24, 12 × 36, 16 × 48 and 20 × 60 inches. Panoramic framed canvas comes in black, walnut or oak. Canvas uses giclée printing rated to resist fading for 100 years or more.

Frequently asked questions

What are some classic landscape paintings?

Monet's haystacks and river views, Van Gogh's fields, and Klimt's lake views are among the best known. This collection has examples of each.

What is landscape painting called?

It is simply called landscape. Views of the sea are called seascapes. Views of a town are called cityscapes or townscapes.

How do I choose a landscape print size?

Measure the furniture below it. A print about two-thirds of that width looks balanced. Over a 90-inch sofa, that is about 60 inches, the width of our largest panoramic print.

Are these original paintings?

No. They are giclée prints of public-domain paintings, made to order. They are not signed or limited editions.

Should I choose paper or canvas?

Choose fine art paper if you want to frame the print yourself. It is 340gsm, 100% cotton rag, and ships rolled in a tube. Choose canvas if you want to hang it the day it arrives.

How do I hang a canvas print?

Canvas is stretched on solid wood bars. Framed canvas arrives with a hanging wire. Unframed gallery-wrapped canvas has a sawtooth hanger on the back.
