Selecting a vintage dog painting

About the painters
This collection highlights four painters from the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries who approached animal subjects with distinct visions.
Carl Reichert was an Austrian painter known for his portraits of dogs and cats. He painted in a realistic style and rendered coat texture, whiskers, and watchful eyes with precision.
Franz Marc was a German Expressionist painter and a founder of the Blue Rider group with Wassily Kandinsky. He painted animals with strong color and simple shapes. He died in the First World War in 1916.
Édouard Vuillard was a French painter and member of the Nabis group. Known for quiet interiors and domestic scenes, he often painted people at home. His Woman with Dog on a Blue Couch (Marcelle Aron) (1914) shows a woman with her dog on a blue couch.
Alfred Thompson Bricher was an American painter recognized for coastal scenes and landscapes. In On the Meadows of Old Newburyport (1873), he placed children and a dog in an open meadow.
