Kandinsky prints in this collection
Our Kandinsky prints form a small collection of nine prints. Two are designs for the Blue Rider almanac cover, and two are designs for a mural. One color study comes in two formats. This page lists all our Wassily Kandinsky prints, and each is a public-domain work printed to order.
About Wassily Kandinsky
Wassily Kandinsky was born in Moscow in 1866. He studied law and economics there. In 1896 he gave up law and moved to Munich to study painting. His landscapes grew brighter and looser, and by about 1910 he was moving toward abstraction.
In 1911 he and Franz Marc founded the Blue Rider (Der Blaue Reiter). The same year he published Concerning the Spiritual in Art. In it he linked colors and shapes to musical sounds and to feelings.
He returned to Russia during World War I. From 1922 to 1933 he taught at the Bauhaus in Germany. There his work turned to circles, lines and triangles. He then moved to France and died near Paris in 1944.
The works in this collection
- Quadrate mit konzentrischen Ringen (1913): his color study of squares filled with rings. It also comes as a panoramic print.
- Design for the cover of the almanac ‘The Blue Rider’ (1911): a horse and rider in bright blocks of color. A second cover design shows a rider on a white horse.
- Farbstudie mit Rauten (1913): a watercolor study of diamond shapes.
- Entwurf zu einem Wandbild für Edwin R. Campbell (1914): a watercolor design for a mural. A second design comes from the same commission.
- Lithograph Blue, The Boat (1922): a print from his first year at the Bauhaus.
- Park Von St. Cloud – Herbst I (1906): an early autumn landscape, painted near Paris before his turn to abstraction.
Sizes, frames and prices
Sizes run from 8 × 12 to 28 × 42 inches, or from 11 × 14 to 30 × 40 inches. The range depends on the shape of the work. Fine art paper starts at $30, gallery-wrapped canvas at $50, and framed canvas at $90. Frames come in black, white, gold, silver, walnut and oak. The panoramic circle study comes in 8 × 24 to 20 × 60 inches, from $90 on canvas and $120 framed.
